Step 1

Your appointment will start with a consult with your laser tech. They will review your medical history, your goals, and asses your skin and hair type.

How it works

Step 2

You will be provided with protective eyewear. The area being treated will be cleansed. Your laser tech will enter in settings based off your skin and hair. You will then feel a mild snapping similar to a rubber band against the skin.

Step 3

You may experience mild redness and warmth. You will be provided with hydrocortisone cream to help calm the skin. We will then have you return within 4-6 weeks for another treatment.

    • Stay Out of the Sun

      Laser treatment cannot be performed on sunburned or recently tanned skin, so be sure to take at least two weeks off from soaking up the sun before & after your laser appointment.

    • Be Careful with Skin Products (in the treatment area)

    Avoid products with AHA/BHA, Hydroquinone, retinol, aspirin, Tazorac, Differin, and Vitamin E within one week of your treatment.

    • No Antibiotics

    Many medications that are sun sensitive will also make your more sensitive to the laser. Please disclose any medications that you may be taking. No antibiotics can be used within a 2-week period.

    • No Self Tanner

    • Shave the Area

      You will need to shave the area within 24 hours before laser treatment. You must arrive without any hair remaining in the area.

    • Arrive with Clean Skin

    • Pick a Suitable Wardrobe

      You should put some extra thought into picking out your wardrobe on the day of your laser hair removal appointment. You might experience some irritation in the area after your laser hair removal treatment.

      To avoid further irritation from your clothing, choose loose and breathable clothing. If you are treating your bikini area, choose cotton underwear and loose-fitting pants.

  • Gentle Maxx Pro Plus

    The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is a dual-platform laser system, combining the might of both the Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) lasers. This dual capability allows it to address a broader spectrum of skin types and hair colors.

  • Each client experiences discomfort differently, but most will agree that laser hair removal feels like a rubber-band snapping on your skin. We use a unique cooling device that ensures our patients are as comfortable as possible during their treatment. If required, we also have a skin numbing agent that is available for purchase if needed to help with your laser hair removal treatments.

  • Laser Hair Removal does require multiple treatments in order to be effective. Typically, each client will require around 12 treatments per area. This depends heavily upon which area of your body we are treating. We encourage patients to space their treatments 4-6 weeks apart, depending on skin area. We will work together to determine a recommended period of time between treatments. At Modern, We offer up to 18 months of laser hair removal treatments to ensure that your results are phenomenal and permanent.

  • Your hair grows in cycles. It only contains enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy from the laser hair removal procedure to destroy the hair follicle when it is actively growing. Some hair follicles may be dormant during your first procedure and won’t respond well the first time. As these hair follicles become active through natural hair growing cycles, you’ll start to grow hair. By performing multiple laser hair removal treatments, we ensure that we target all the hair follicles in the specified area during every cycle of the hair growing process.

  • You should see results almost immediately after your first treatment. The unwanted hair will start to look finer and weaker and your pores will appear reduced. Most of our clients even experience smoother skin, just after one visit. These results will only be magnified with every continuing treatment.

  • Laser hair removal will terminate ingrown hairs completely by removing the source of irritation and Preventing future ingrown hairs.

  • This is an especially important guideline between appointments. The laser targets the pigment in the hair, so if you have damaged the follicle by tweezing or waxing, the treatment will not work.

    Instead, you will see the hair that you removed by tweezing or waving grow back. Wait at least 4 weeks after your last waxing appointment before beginning laser hair removal treatment.

  • Hair removal treatments work best on fair skin and thick, dark hair. Patients with darker skin will likely require more treatments. People with blonde, light-colored hair might have a difficult time with this treatment option.

    It’s important to speak with your laser hair removal technician to determine if you’re a suitable candidate or not. They can assess your skin and hair before your first treatment. If laser hair removal isn’t ideal for you, they can point you in the direction of a better treatment option.
